Hi this is a page dedicated to Dementia Awareness Day or D.A.D  for short.... Do YOU know what life is like for people who suffer a form of this???.  Do you even know how many ''tags''' this dreadful disease has, That it is often associated with ''''Elderly''''' people, but in fact it can strike anyone of any age..

It's a frightening world, one that causes huge amounts of distress, and confusion for the sufferer.  But also their whole family suffers too.   Everyone forgets things at times, but when you suddenly go somewhere where you've been going for years, and find you no longer recognise it at all, then THAT is really  frightening.

Imagine, not recognising your own family or close friends.  This can often make the sufferer very distressed disorientated.   It's a long slow agonising life with no cure.

A group of us have set up a DEMENTIA AWARENESS DAY where every year on SEPTEMBER 17th we will all light chinese lanterns as soon as it is dark and let them go.
Please help us to do this.  All you need to do, is to get a group of friends together with a lantern, and light them and let them go.  After dark.  The more people in the UK who do this together  will enLIGHTen the world to the plight of those suffering from this terrible disease.   To help us to make this a success keep intouch here, or go to  our face book page
http://tinyurl.com/6dp2vg3  or on the Blog: http://dementiaawarenessdaydad.weebly.com/dad.html .

We will also be sending up lilac or mauve ballooons at around 3pm on the same day, these can go individually from your own back garden.

if you know of someone who has passed after suffering from one of the many forms of Dementia, then you can, with a marker pen, add their name to your balloon or lantern.

We need a cure, and in order to bring this to the attention of the government to make funds available for this, we need to make them realise how strongly we all feel about having more monies put into this project.

For more information you can contact

Please Note,  I am now intouch with Kirsty from Dementia UK, and she is advising that if anyone of you would like to fundraise for these events, then perhaps you can send monies direct to them... here is what Kirsty has written

FROM KIRSTY of DEMENTIA UK I just wanted to ask if you could possibly add that, if anyone wants to fundraise, that the money will go to support Dementia UK. Currently Dementia UK is not mentioned on the Causes page: http://www.causes.com/causes/564203-help-set-up-a-uk-dementia-awareness-day?m=cef7103e We would be delighted if this day could raise much needed funds to help us expend our Admiral Nurse Services, but we would also really like to just raise awareness of the work of our charity. please also add our Charity Registration No: 1039404 as this is a legal requirement.
